The Tulip Passengers
A pale blue bus climbs a coral-coloured coast road with a full load of tulips, pink, red, yellow, purple and orange, one of them at the wheel. Cypresses, a farmhouse, a yellow sky and the sea. It is drawn in coloured pencil, and it is going on holiday.

What is going on
The tulips are passengers and one of them is driving; the dark one at the front has the wheel. The road curves down from a hill on the left and along the water, and the whole landscape, lemon-yellow sky, lavender mountains, is drawn with the grain of pencil on paper showing everywhere. The picture is cheerful without being loud, because the pencil keeps every colour soft.
How to look at it
Count the tulips (there are eleven) and find the driver. Then follow the road back up the hill to the farmhouse, and out along the coast to the village on the point. The picture is full of places the bus has been and is going. The stone wall at the bottom left, with its daisies and lavender, is drawn with the same care as the passengers, and it is the part to look at last.
